NPP parliamentary vote recount sees incumbent stretch win

The recount of votes of the Sunyani East Constituency primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ordered by a Sunyani High Court on Friday, July 16 has been conducted.

It was conducted within two hours as directed by the Sunyani High Court 3.

The recount was conducted in the full glare of concerned parties while it was projected in the court.

The result gave incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) and winner Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh one more vote to stretch his win.

Mr Ameyaw-Cheremeh, as a result, polls 389 votes from the previous 388 as against challenger George Kumi’s 387.

The outcome reinforces the win of the incumbent, who is said to be unfazed by the tussle.

He will, therefore, barring any unfortunate incident, contest again in the 2016 elections as NPP’s parliamentary candidate.
