The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has replied the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the latter’s accusation that the Menzgold saga was created by the Akufo-Addo-led government.
At a press conference on Wednesday, NDC’s Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi fingered the government for being complicit in the loss of millions of Cedis of customers of Menzgold Ghana Limited.
Mr Gyamfi described as disgusting the posturing of government over the issue.
But in a reprisal press conference addressed by its Communications Director, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, the NPP said Ghanaians are more discerning now than before to believe the “lies” and “propaganda” of the NDC.
“Twenty years ago, you could do this propaganda and get away with it,” he noted.
According to the Adentan Member of Parliament, Menzgold is part of the financial sector crunch the country was plunged into in the dying embers of the NDC government.
“Menzgold is one of the problems NDC has left us to clear,” the lawmaker stressed.
“We have cleared a lot of their mess,” he indicated, alluding to the banking sector reforms.
He said some appointees of former president John Dramani Mahama took huge loans – with minimal interests – from some of the state-owned banks and lodged them with private banks and later lent same to government at high rates.
He concluded that a lot of wrong was committed in the erstwhile government and the Menzgold problem is one of them.
The legal practitioner assured that the Akufo-Addo government is adequately armed to make sure that the financial sector is in good state to boost the economy.
He said the actions of the NDC will keep them in opposition either for long or forever.
