NPP calls for truce, seeks ‘healthy relationship’ with NDC

November 17, 2018

[L-R] Former President Mahama and President Akufo-Addo
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling for “a healthy relationship” between political parties in the country, especially the NPP and the National Democratic Congress, which have governed the country since the fourth republic.

Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Obiri Boahen, who made the call for truce Saturday, explained the duopoly that has characterised the country’s politics will continue for a very long time hence the need build bridges between the two parties.

“It is extremely important that a healthy relationship is maintained between the two of us [NPP and NDC] for the welfare of this country,” he said at the ongoing National Delegates Congress of the NDC in Accra.

While he acknowledging the cooperation between the two parties over the years, he said “it will be hypocritical to fail to acknowledge the rising incidence of acrimony, mudslinging, politics insults and character assassination which is slowly creeping into our body politics”.

Such situation, he said, gives a cause for concern because it “tends to run down the otherwise enviable reputation Ghana has carved for herself as a beacon of hope and bastion democracy on the continent of of Africa and beyond.

“We cannot continue down this road and scare the good people of Ghana away from the opportunity to serve our country in dignity,” he stated, and urged politicians to live by example by respecting the values and virtues of society.

He advised that “tolerance, decency, and discipline must guide the way we interact with each other”.
