Nominations close Thursday for NDC primaries

Nominations for the November 7 presidential and parliamentary primaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are scheduled to close on Thursday, September 10.

The nominations were opened nationwide on Thursday, August 27 with most of the sitting members of parliament bent on seeking reelection in the parliamentary race.

President John Dramani Mahama, who is the leader of the party, is the only member to have been officially recognised as standing for the presidential primary.

Forms picked by one George Boateng have stirred controversy after General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia referred to them as draft copies.

Mr Boateng, 45, has since returned the forms and has threatened injuncting the primaries if he is not given original ones by the close of day Thursday.

Some senior officers of the party have hinted the party branch youth organiser will not be allowed to pick forms though the president has stated he is not fazed by any internal contest.

Most of the interested parliamentary aspirants are expected to file their nomination forms on Thursday.
