The Green Innovation Award is an award scheme to honour individuals that come up with innovative ideas related to the growth of the floriculture industry in Ghana. It is a partnership between the Israeli embassy in Ghana and the Ghana Garden and Flower Movement to encourage green innovation in Ghana. The nine shortlisted contestants went through a rigorous selection process beginning with writing about their ideas and producing a 90-second video to showcase it. The pitch will be held as part of activities lined up for this year’s Ghana Garden and Flower Show (GGFS) scheduled to take place from 28th August to 3rd September, 2019 at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park. The award will be presented during the closing ceremony of the GGFS. The Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Shani Cooper-Zubida, says: “The State of Israel is a nation of innovation and helps to stimulate innovation wherever it finds itself, thus the embassy is excited to introduce the Green Innovation Competition to help develop Ghana’s floriculture industry, particularly among the youth”. The Ghana Garden and Flower Show is an initiative of Stratcomm Africa that seeks to promote Ghana’s floriculture and horticulture industry for a Greener, Cleaner, Healthier, Wealthier and more Beautiful Ghana. This year’s Show is under the theme ‘Be the change’. The Show brings together players in the floriculture industry to showcase Ghana’s flora and fauna and their commercial, aesthetic, environmental, health and psychological benefits for these to harnessed and developed for individual and national benefit.
