Over 30 young women entrepreneurs have been honoured for their outstanding roles in entrepreneurship, at the second edition of the Women in Entrepreneurship Awards (WIEA) held in Accra.
The most prestigious awards scheme for young entrepreneurs and startups, WIEA, organized by Women in Entrepreneurship Ghana (WIEG), places high value on innovative and daring individuals who have created job opportunities and contributing towards economic empowerment.
It seeks to showcase women owned enterprises and celebrate women entrepreneurs from conceivable industries, and in the process shine a national light on their hard work and efforts to improve lives.
One of the key highlights of WIEA 2022 was recognising nominees who could not win the main award in their respective categories, reason being that, they were not just nominees but also winners.
In her remarks, Oheneyere Gifty Anti, who chaired the event, described WIEG’s initiative as laudable, and as well underscored the need for women to be empowered.
She noted that this would go a long way to change the narrative and give women the confidence to explore and excel in any chosen field.
Sylvia Tweneboah-Koduah, Chief Executive Officer of WIEA, also noted the award scheme aimed at empowering and recognizing the strong impactful effort by some women in the business industry.
She revealed that the WIEA Board researched and selected participants who were doing so well in their respective fields, hence, the decision to present recognition awards to all nominees.
Miss Tweneboah-Koduah therefore encouraged women to look into themselves, identify their potentials and make a business out of it, this she said, would help generate sustainable incomes.
At end of the day, awardees on the night included Mariam Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of Mimi’s Skincare & Spa, who won the ultimate- Woman Entrepreneur of the Year.
Others are Emmanuella Ukoha, ‘Family Business of the Year’, Judith Owusu, ‘Student Entrepreneur of the Year’, Bridget Sefa Boakye, Most Promising Entrepreneur of the Year’, Emmanuella Boatemaa Asaw, ‘Made in Ghana Product of the Year’, Yaa Birago Osei Asibey, ‘Creative Industry Entrepreneur of the Year’, Joyce Konadu, ‘Social Entrepreneur of the Year’, and Precious Valentine, ‘Innovative Business of the Year’.
Ruth Nana Amissah, went home with ‘Real Estate Developer of the Year’, Nana Baaba Fynnba Quartey, ‘Agri-Woman of the Year’, whereas, Aisha Mohammed, grabbed ‘Business Support Organization of the Year’ award.
Among Dignitaries present at the event include Honourable Alfred Tuah-Yeboah Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakaria, Maame Afia Akoto, Jonathan Eze Nwadinobi, Nana Yaa Konadu, and Margaret Ansie.
