We will evolve modalities to cater for retired footballers – Kofi Adams

Mr Kofi Adams

The Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams has assured Ghanaians that if approved, he will evolve modalities to cater for the needs of retired footballers.

According to him, the current financial and health status of some of these retirees leaves much to be desired.

“We will encourage active sportsmen to contribute to a pension scheme. If I am approved, we will come out with modalities to see what we can do for those who have retired,” he assured.

Mr Adams said this in response to a question by MP for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib on January 30.

Touching on the financial challenges facing the sports sector. Mr Adams stated that he has become aware of the financial challenges facing the sector and would engage stakeholders to resolve them

“I’m aware of the GHC468 million debt that must be dealt with. We will strategise to ensure that the National Sports Authority (NSA) plays its role as regards Black Stars funding to resolve the issues,” the Sports Minister-designate said.
