The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has apologized to management of TV 3 Network for Tuesday’s attack on one of the television station’s cameramen, Steven Boadi, at the Holy Gardens.
Leading a delegation to the premises of TV 3, Elizabeth Ohene, a Former Minister of State, conceded that an attack on the media is an attack on democracy and electoral process; therefore, the party frowns on any such act.
“We definitely don’t imagine that there will be any circumstance under which any journalist doing his or her work should be molested by any member of the public, let alone a member of the NPP,” Ms Ohene said.
“We are sorry,” she apologised, on behalf of the Party.
Chief Executive Officer of TV 3 Network Kweku Ofosu Asare appreciated the gesture but asked the leadership to restrain its supporters.
“We have behaved professionally trying to be as neutral as possible in our reportage,” he said.
“The followers of the NPP should be advised to desist from such acts because Steven [Boadi] was there doing his job as a professional cameraman,” he stressed, adding that if the supporters continue to assault the journalists, they will be denied their source of news.
