W/R: Three suspects arrested for unlawful possession of arms and ammunition

The Western Central Regional Police Command on 30th April, 2025 arrested three (3) suspects for unlawful possession of arms and ammunition at Bowodie-Wassa Akropong in the Western Region.

The suspects, Hakeem Imoro, Imoro Tahiru, and Nurideen Wahab, were arrested on board a Grand Bird Bus with registration number AS 4431-22 which was en route to Wassa Akropong.

A search conducted on suspect Hakeem Imoro led to the retrieval of an (SMG) rifle and twenty-one (21) rounds of ammunition.

Upon interrogation, suspect Hakeem Imoro disclosed that the firearm was given to him by his boss for safekeeping.

The three suspects are currently in custody, assisting police investigations and will be put before the court.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Region, the South Regional Police Command has said it is investigating a shooting incident which occurred on 29th April, 2025 and resulted in the death of five people at Asiyaw, near Akwane-Dobro, Nsawam.

A statement issued on Thursday, May 1 said that the Police crime scene team which responded to the incident, found the lifeless bodies of five (5) male adults with gunshot wounds.

The team also recovered the following items from the scene;

  • One (1) Toyota Tacoma vehicle,
  • One (1)Toyota Tundra vehicle,
  • One (1) pump action gun with seventeen (17) live cartridges,
  • Four (4) empty cartridges,
  • Three (3) 7.62/39mm empty shells,
  • One (1) 9mm empty shell
  • Five (5) heavy duty motorbikes.

According to the Police statement, preliminary investigations suggest that there was a confrontation between two groups over sand winning at the location of the incident.

The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification and autopsy while investigation continues to get the perpetrators arrested.
