[Video] Man ‘shoots himself’ after shooting another near KNUST

A man believed whose name has been given by police as Samson Zabanga shot himself on Tuesday morning after a confrontation in front of Victory Towers Hostel at Ayeduase, just outside Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Eye witnesses say the man was accused of driving recklessly by a lady.

In the ensuing confrontation between the two, another man, by name Kwame Amoah, came to the defence of the lady.

But the deceased shot Kwame Amoah three times in the abdomen, eye witnesses say.

In an attempt to escape, the deceased’s car was crossed and hit by a commercial tricycle, popularly known as Aboboyaa.

Reports say he shot himself after sensing danger of a possible mob attack.

The police have since got to the scene to restore calm.

“So far what we have gathered from the scene of crime indicate that this young man, Samson Zabanga, 31, was driving a KIA Optima private car with registration number GR 2019-17 and it’s being alleged that he accused an oncoming vehicle for reckless driving, so this brought an argument between him and some other person whose name has been given to police as Kwame Amoah, 52,” Ashanti Regional Police Command’s Public Relations Officer ASP Godwin Ahianyo told journalists.

“In the course of the argument, it’s alleged that Kwame Amoah slapped him and he also slapped him back.

“During the road rage, he went into his vehicle, picked a foreign pistol loaded with 60 rounds of ammunition and shot the other person in the lower abdomen.”

ASP Ahianyo said he sustained injuries in his head, as a result, and is currently in a “critical condition” at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Some witnesses, however, claim the man was part of a robbery gang.
