Video: Former President Akufo-Addo attends 68th Independence Day celebration at Jubilee House

Former President Nana Akufo-Addo has arrived at the Jubilee House to participate in Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration.

This marks his first public national event since handing over power to President John Dramani Mahama.

His presence at the scaled-down ceremony is notable, as he was absent from President Mahama’s first State of the Nation Address last week.

Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations this year, themed “Reflect, Review, Reset,” are being held at the Office of the President rather than the traditional Black Star Square due to economic constraints. The event features a Military Guard of Honour, cultural performances by schoolchildren, and a poetry recital by a senior high school student.

President Mahama is expected to deliver a speech emphasizing national unity, resilience, and patriotism. The government has assured that the more modest celebration does not diminish the day’s significance but reflects a responsible approach to public spending.

As Ghanaians commemorate this historic day, the legacy of independence, championed by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and other freedom fighters, remains a guiding force in shaping the nation’s future.
