Two illegal miners were killed Saturday, July 15 after a mining pit collapsed on them at Konongo-Odumase in the Asante Akim Central of the Ashanti Region.

Three miners in all were trapped in the collapsed pit.

It took the efforts of rescue operators to recover the bodies.

The pit collapsed after heavy rains in the area on Saturday.

editors.3news.com gathers the incident is not new as many illegal miners get trapped often as they search for gold. Konongo-Odumase is popular as one of the prime gold-mining towns in Ghana.

Heavy-duty equipment were deployed on Saturday to rescue the trapped miners but unfortunately two lifeless bodies were recovered.

They were sent to the Konongo Government Hospital.
