Two wounded, one dead in military clash with small scale miners at Gbane

An attempt to close down illegal pits linking Earl International Mining Company’s concession resulted in a clash between the military and the illegal miners who tried resisting the closure of the pits.

According to unconfirmed reports, one person lost his life and two got wounded.

Two years ago, a lot of illegal pits linking Earl International Mining Company concessions were closed down by the REGSEC.

According to the Deputy Public Relations officer of Earl International Ghana Gold Mining Company, Albert Azongo, the illegal miners vandalized vehicles of the military personnel who were part of the operations to seal the illegal pits.

The activities of illegal miners over the years have adversely affected the underground operations of Earl International Ghana Gold Mining Company. These illegal miners used unapproved routes to go to the underground of the mine to take away gold ores.

The illegal pits are used in invading the concessions of the mining company which sometimes results in illegal miners dying from blasting operations of the company. The sealing of the pit is a measure to avoid any deaths of illegal miners in the company’s underground.
