The Greater Accra Regional Police Command through investigations have successfully arrested, prosecuted and convicted two armed robbers for two major robberies within the Greater Accra Region.
The incidents are said to have occurred separately at Dome and ACP junction close to Kwabenya in Accra.
Briefing journalists on Monday, May 26, 2025, police said on May 11, 2025 at about 1: 25 am, the convicts Isaac Agbezodu, aged 20 and Justice Oppong, alias Gariba Manta, aged 19, an okada rider attacked an individual at Dome.
The suspects riding a motorbike fired local made pistol into the air to instill fear into the victim and successfully made away with Tecno Pop 8 smartphone valued GHC1500 and handbag containing several items.
The Regional Police Command launched investigations into the incident which led to the arrest of Isaac on May 14, 2025.
After a vigorous interrogation, Isaac confessed his involvement in the crime and key exhibits including motorbikes, clothing used in the operation were retrieved.
Isaac also assisted police in the identification of his accomplices.
On May 22, 2025 following intelligence operation, Gariba Manta was also arrested at a mining site between Osino and Saaman.
He subsequently led police to the hideout at Sonitral, Amasaman where the pistol and the live ammunition used in the robbery where also retrieved.
Both suspects were arraigned and Isaac was convicted on his own plea and sentenced by Kwabenya Circuit court for 10 years imprisonment on two counts to run concurrently.
Gariba was also convicted and sentenced to 15 years in imprisonment.
Police say further investigations linked Gariba Manta to a separate robbery incident that occurred on February 5, 2025 at ACP junction near Kwabenya together with three accomplices; Bright Alikpo, 21, Emmanuel Nii Odartey Lamptey, 23 and Prince Owusu, 19.
According to police statement, the convicts robbed a victim of iPhone 11 pro Max, a Samsung tablet and cash in the sum of GHC6000.
They used knives and scissors on their victims who sustained knife wounds during the attack.
“All the three accomplices were arrested through a targeted operation. All three accomplices were convicted by a Kwabenya Circuit court ad sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each,” the Police stated.
A suspect believed to be residing in Koforidua who allegedly purchased the stolen iPhone 11 Pro Max is also being pursued by the Police.
