Two EC officials collapse at Okaikwei North

Two officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) have collapsed at the Okaikwei North collation centre in the Greater Accra Region following a discharge of pepper spray.

The victims have since been rushed to the hospital. The incident occurred when the officials were entering the collation centre.

However, a chaotic scene erupted suddenly after supporters of the NDC and NPP arrived at the centre amid allegations of attempt to rig the elections. Party members gathered to safeguard the ballot boxes, and this caused a heated confrontation.

The situation escalated, prompting police officers to use pepper spray to control the crowd who were attempting to force their way into the collation centre.

Unfortunately, some of the substance got to the EC officials, which caused them to feel uncomfortable.

Initially, the affected officials appeared stable but later passed out as the effect worsened.
