Communications Director of the National Democratic Party (NDP) Ernest Owusu Bempa has discredited reports that his party, and most importantly its founder, will return to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“There is no way we are going back,” he stressed on TV3’s News @10 on Wednesday, August 26 in an interview with TV3’s Bright Nana Amfoh.
During NDC’s Kumasi congress last year, a call was made by the founder, Jerry John Rawlings, for leadership to make overtures to his wife, Nana Konadu, to return to the NDC.
But according to Mr Owusu Bempa, no member of the NDP would want to associate with a corrupt party such as the NDC.
‘Submarine tactics’
He said the NDC has drifted away from the ideals of probity and accountability and has plunged the country into economic chaos.
He indicated that the NDP is reorganizing ahead of the 2016 elections.
According to him, the party has resolved to employ what he called a “submarine tactics” in reorganizing itself ahead of next year’s elections.
“We want to come out with a strategy that is not open,” the former leader of the erstwhile Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR) said.
He announced that a Community Organisational Network Bureau has been formed to see to getting to NDP’s grassroots.
According to him, the schemes by some people which resulted in the “deliberate” disqualification of NDP’s founder, Nana Konadu, from contesting the 2012 elections will be avoided this time.
“Our party is well awake and we are ready to contest the 2016 elections.”
