The inability of the people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL) to cast their ballot in the parliamentary election in 2020 was a grand scheme to ensure victory for the New Patriotic Pary (NPP) John Peter Amewu, North Tongu lawmaker Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said.
He says this situation falls within the realm of gerrymandering.
“The denial of SALL the right to vote in the 2020 parliamentary elections clearly falls within the realm of gerrymandering. It was clear that there was an agenda to facilitate victory for the ruling government in Hohoe,” Mr Ablakwa said on the Agenda show on TV3.
He added “I feel so embarrassed to have served in this 8th Parliament, which is not complete—a Parliament that did not have four communities represented. We were just representatives of some of the people, not all the people.”
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission’s (EC) dismissal of having disenfranchised the people of Santrokofi, Apkafu, Lolobi and Lipke (SALL) during the 2020 parliamentary elections as brazenly dishonest.
The EC in a statement on Wednesday, May 15, responded to Franklin Cudjoe’s comments, alleging that the EC was culpable for disenfranchising SALL residents because little to nothing was done to ensure the people voted.
“How can any well-meaning person accuse the Commission of disenfranchising the good people of SALL when the facts are so clear?
“It is unfortunate that IMANI continues to peddle falsehood and untruths about the Commission at every point and turn. His narrative that the Commission disenfranchised the people of SALL, now the Guan Constituency, is FALSE. We urge the public to verify information put out by IMANI, with the Commission for the truth and the facts,” portions of the statement said.
