The Minority Caucus in Parliament is still not reneging to get Speaker Bagbin to rescind his suspension of three of its members and one Majority MP.
Bagbin suspended four MPs on Friday for their involvement in last Thursday’s chaotic incident leading to the destruction of some state properties during the ministerial vetting.
At a press briefing on Monday, February 3, 2025, the leader of the Minority Caucus, Afenyo-Markin noted that they have reported the matter to the national executives of the party, awaiting a decision.
According to him, if anything at all, diplomatic channels must be engaged, stating that Alban Bagbin has violated the rights of the MPs for suspending them without a fair hearing.
“In substance he is taking actions that have affected the rights of our members in Parliament. We believe that he must give these affected members hearing.
“We have also escalated the matter to our party level. NPP minority is the wing of the NPP so we have also communicated this matter to party headquarters, the national chairman and the general secretary have become aware of this and they do not take it lightly at all and they believe that the diplomatic channels must be utilized,” he stated.
Afenyo-Markin disclosed that the Minority caucus will engage the speaker and lay before him their grievances, hoping for a meeting with Alban Bagbin, today, February 3, 2025.
“We believe that the Speaker will be in his office, we’ll see the speaker and take our discussions further.
“We are going to forward our concerns in a memo to his office and we believe that will be a basis for our discussion. We don’t know how to treat the Speaker’s communication whether it’s a ruling or a communication so called properly,” Afenyo-Markin noted.
The MPs suspended are; Minority Chief-Whip, Frank Annor-Dompreh, Deputy Minority Chief, Ahmed Shaib, Gushegu MP, Hassan Tampuli and Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor.
The Minority Caucus has vowed to be steadfast in its demands and will not allow the Majority Caucus to “intimidate” its members.
“We would like to emphasis that these happy few will not be intimidated. We will never surrender to any intimidation. All these issues that are being thrown at us, none of these will work.
“We’ve been most cooperative with the NDC majority but they want to bully us, they are bullies,” Afenyo-Markin added.
