The Supreme Court has unanimously overruled an objection raised by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame seeking to prevent Acting Chief Justice Justice Baffoe-Bonnie from presiding over an injunction application challenging the removal process of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Dame argued that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie had a conflict of interest as he could be directly affected by the outcome.
However, Deputy Attorney-General Srem-Sai countered, asserting that the claim of personal benefit was a misconception and did not compromise Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s impartiality.
After a brief private deliberation, the Supreme Court panel delivered a unanimous decision dismissing the Attorney-General’s objection, paving the way for Justice Baffoe-Bonnie to continue presiding over the injunction application.
This ruling allows the substantive case challenging the process of Chief Justice Torkornoo’s removal to proceed without further delay.
