The Supreme Court has dismissed an application filed by businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome, describing it as an abuse of court procedure.

Alfred Woyome, who filed the application in person, wanted the Court to grant him the opportunity to rather give out a GH¢15.5 million land for sale instead of the property the state has confiscated from him.

When the apex court wanted to know why he was representing himself, the business man said because of the urgency of the matter he did not have the time to look for a lawyer.

The legal battle between the state and Mr Woyome had to do with some property the state seized to pay off a debt he owed the state.

Mr Woyome, who was given the opportunity to address the court even though he did not properly appear before it, said he has suffered in the hands of the state and has been abused for doing nothing wrong.

The court questioned why he did not negotiate with the Attorney General to settle the matter but waited for the confiscated property to be auctioned before appearing before the court for such an action to be taken.

He responded by indicating that he has made efforts to meet the Attorney General several times but no opportunity was granted him, an action he said was to frustrate him and unduly delay the matter.

He argued it is not true the state has auctioned the confiscated property, which he claimed have problems due to some investments made by some persons.

He prayed the court to grant him the application so that he will rather give out the GH¢15.5 million land in order to get the confiscated property back.

The court in its ruling rather dismissed the application, describing it as “unmeritorious in procedure and it is dismissed as an abuse of court procedure”.
