The Effutu Constituency has the highest number of persons taking part in the special voting exercise in the Central Region.
According to the Electoral Commission’s provided data, the constituency has a total of 2,271 persons registered as special voters, followed by the Awutu Senya East which has a total of 1,298 special voters.
The Ekumfi Constituency has the least number of special voters with 118 security personnel.
While, this development is not leading to any serious concerns being raised, political enthusiasts are suggesting that it is an indication of a possible heavy security presence on mass voting day.
A local journalist, Kwabena Nyamekye, told 3News.com that “this may be a warning sign to future events. We may see the deployment of heavy security to this area on December 7 just as it occurred during the Assembly elections last year”.
He added that, “we must however be watchful and prevent the possibility of anyone to intimidate civilians through such deployments. Last year, some voters were assaulted by some military personnel who were deployed here. We may not want to have a repeat of that”.
Voting at the Police Staff and Command College in Winneba has however been peaceful since 7:00am when voting officially commenced.
