The special voting exercise for the 2024 general elections commenced today, December 2, across the country, with the Ablekuma Central constituency actively taking part in the process.
By 6:20 a.m., officials from the Electoral Commission (EC) had arrived, and a significant number of eligible voters were already seated and standing in line, ready to cast their votes.
The EC began setting up at 6:33 a.m., and by 6:48 a.m., the seals on the ballot boxes were broken under public observation. Inspection of the ballot papers followed promptly at 6:59 a.m., ensuring transparency in the process.
Notable figures at the polling station included Jefferson Sackey, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the constituency, who expressed his hopes for a smooth and peaceful election. Similarly, Frank Onero, spokesperson for Abdul-Latif Dan, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, shared similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of a legitimate winner emerging from the entire 2024 election process.
The special voting exercise is designed to enable over 130,000 individuals—including EC officials, media personnel, and security officers—to cast their votes ahead of the general election day. This ensures they are available to perform their official duties during the main elections.
