The family of slain social activist, Ibrahim Anyass Mohammed alias Macho Kaaka, has formally written to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, in connection with Kaaka’s murder.

The family wants the National Chief Imam to use his good office to help amplify the call for justice for the murdered activist and the people of Ejura who became victims of violence in the after events of Kaaka’s death.

The petition follows an earlier visit to the Chief Imam on the same matter where the Chief Imam requested that their concerns be put into formal written – which the family has now done.

The petition dated September 9 in parts recounted events leading to Kaaka’s murder and events that succeeded his murder.

The family says it is not satisfied with the way the matter has been handled, especially with the conduct of the Ghana Police Service, who they accuse as having “deliberately peddled misinformation”. The family is particularly worried about the prosecution of Kaaka’s brother, Baba Iddi.

“Just 4 days after Kaaka died, at least one senior police officer, COP Tiwaa Addo Danquah, told the press that Kaaka was not killed in connection with his activism. This was at a time when the Police had barely conducted any investigation into the matter. In fact, it was only recently, on 10 August 2021, that the Police from Kumasi showed up in Ejura to interview tenants in the house where Kaaka was attacked”, the family recounted.

“by directing the public to conclusively discount any suggestions that Kaaka’s murder was in connection with his social activism, the Police and certain authorities deliberately gave currency to the perception that Kaaka was killed by his brother, Iddi Mohammed”, it added.

The family is among other things praying the office of the National Chief Imam to “designate a special Justice for Kaaka liaison to intercede on our behalf, and work with us, with the authority of your office, in all our interactions with the police, Attorney-General, the Courts system and all public institutions”.

They also want the Chief Imam to lead their call for an independent inquiry into the lapses surrounding the police investigations and also give a voice to their demand for fresh and more thorough investigations to be conducted.

They want the National Chief Imam to lead their call for the Report of the Committee to be released for public discussion.
