Sentencing for the 35-year-old woman, who poured boiling water on the genitals of her 11-year-old son for spending her GHC1 on food, has for the second time been deferred by the Takoradi Circuit Court. Maame Yaa who was on May 10 convicted for causing harm to her son, Emmanuel Affenyi had her sentencing set for May 23 but when the case came up in court last Wednesday, the court again deferred her sentencing to June 6.. No reasons were given, but it is believed to be because Maame Yaa is currently nursing a baby. Emmanuel was said to have explained to her mother that he took the money to buy food because he was hungry when he returned from school. However, the explanation did not go down well with Maame Yaa who was said to have boiled water and poured same on the groins of the boy, leaving him in severe burns. Prosecutors say Affenyi, who is a pupil of the Funko Catholic Primary School is responding to treatment at the Kwesimintsim Hospital. The convict was arrested after a complaint was made to the Police and was on Wednesday, May 9 arraigned on a charge of causing harm to which she pleaded guilty. When the case was called, Maame Yaa appeared remorseful. She did not attempt any explanation for her action but pleaded for leniency after she pleaded guilty to the offence. The court consequently convicted him on her own plea and deferred sentencing to May 23. She has meanwhile been granted GHC5,000 bail. By 3news.com|Ghana]]>
