Fati Alhassan, president of the Secret Billion Family, has said that it is a women empowerment group that supports young women.
During an interview with Berla Mundi on the Day Show, Fati Alhassan revealed that Secret Billion started in the year 2012 with four friends.
“The group started with four friends. We don’t go to work on Sundays, so there is one particular friend that we usually meet at her place. We contribute among ourselves to cook and feast to entertain ourselves.”
“One friend among us got married, so we able to contribute to give her something small. The other also got sick, and we contributed as well. So we realized that it was good and helpful.”
According to Fati Alhassan, this birthed the idea of forming a society of women who can help each other in times of need. She also revealed that the group came back by its name through a brainstorming session.
“This particular lady said she joined a club with the name ‘Secret Ladies’. So we decided to use ‘Billion Ladies’, but I didn’t like it. So we tried adding Billions to Secret, and we realized it was a good combination. And that was how we got the name Secret Billions.”
According to some members, they joined through their social media handles after watching videos on Instagram.
