Sandema Naab appeals to military for support in combating robbery incidents

The Paramount Chief of the Builsa Traditional Area, Naab Azagzuk Azantilow II, has appealed to the Ghana Armed Forces to support ongoing efforts to curb rising activities of armed robbers in Sandema and its surrounding communities.

In a statement delivered on his behalf by his spokesman, Pontius Pilate Apabey Baba, during a courtesy call by the Chief of Army Staff, Naab Azantilow acknowledged the efforts of the Ghana Police Service in maintaining law and order but stressed that a collaborative effort with the military would be more effective.

“Even though the police are doing a good job tackling the issue, a joint collaboration with the military will be the best approach in addressing the situation,” the Chief stated.

Naab Azantilow expressed gratitude to the Ghana Armed Forces for establishing a military barracks in Sandema, a development seen as a major step towards improving regional security.

He also called for the prompt compensation of landowners whose lands were used for the facility.

Additionally, the Chief urged the military to consider extending essential services such as access to clean water, healthcare, and education to the local community once the barracks becomes fully operational.

He further assured the military of the traditional council’s commitment to cooperating closely with security agencies to ensure peace and stability in the area.

Responding to the chief’s concerns, the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, thanked the traditional council and people of Sandema for their generous provision of land for the barracks.

“We are grateful for the support and the land provided for the establishment of the barracks. The concerns raised have been noted and will be addressed appropriately,” he said.

Major General Gbetanu reaffirmed the Ghana Armed Forces’ commitment to working hand in hand with the traditional authorities to enhance security and development in the Sandema area.

The establishment of the military barracks for the 12 mechanise Battalion, is expected to play a critical role in deterring crime and boosting the preparedness of the Ghana Armed Forces against external threats.
