Samreboi chiefs, residents threaten more protests over bad roads

The chiefs and people of Samreboi in the Amenfi West District of the Western Region have threatened to hit the streets again soon to protest against the bad nature of roads in the area. The residents on November 8, 2019 embarked on a massive demonstration to register their displeasure about the bad state on roads in the area. A two-week-ultimatum was issued to government to ensure that the poor road network in the area was fixed. According to them, although Samreboi is a leading cocoa and timber producing area in the country, all the roads linking the town have been left in deplorable state by successive governments. Speaking on our Sunrise morning show on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, Chief of Samreboi, Nana Ackah Andoh said they are yet to get any response from the government over their concerns. “We were hopeful of hearing a favourable response from the authorities after presenting our petition to the MCE of the area, but as we speak, nothing has been said to us or are there any plans to fix the roads”. Nana Ackah Andoh also said they are putting measures in place to embark on another massive demonstration after the expiration of the ultimatum given to government. According to him, they would longer wait for the rains to commence before government brings in equipment to fix the roads. “When it begins to rains, it would be impossible for work to be done on the roads”. He further stated that, if they do not register their displeasure now and get the roads fixed, politicians would only pretend to get the roads fixed because it is an election year.
