Roads Ministry owed GHC21bn as at the end of December 2024 – Agbodza

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has revealed that the Ministry’s total indebtedness as of December 2024 stands at over GH¢21 billion.

He made this disclosure in Parliament on Friday, February 28, while responding to a question posed by a Member of Parliament regarding the financial status of the Ministry.

His revelation highlights the significant financial burden facing the sector.

Speaking on the matter, Agbodza stated, “The total indebtedness in the Ministry of Roads and Highways as at December 2024 is GH¢21 billion.”

This staggering amount reflects outstanding payments owed to contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders involved in road infrastructure projects across the country.

The debt situation raises concerns about the government’s ability to fund ongoing and future road projects.

The revelation comes at a time when the country’s road infrastructure remains a key concern for citizens, with many demanding improvements in road conditions.

The debt burden could pose challenges for the Ministry’s ability to undertake new projects or complete stalled ones.

Analysts have warned that without urgent financial intervention, road development efforts may slow down significantly.

Mr Agbodza’s statement is expected to spark further debate in Parliament, with lawmakers likely to push for strategies to address the debt crisis.
