Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, has held a high-level meeting with the World Bank Regional Director for Infrastructure, Mr Franz R. Dress-Cross, to explore strategies aimed at strengthening Ghana’s road infrastructure.

The engagement took place on April 8 as part of government’s ongoing efforts to boost connectivity and transport efficiency across the country.

Key areas of discussion included the reintroduction of road toll, technical support for effective road contract management, and the de-capping of the Road Fund to ensure consistent financing for road maintenance.

Also highlighted were budgetary considerations for the Kumasi Urban Mobility and Accessibility Project (KUMAP), as well as other priority projects being pursued by the Ministry.

Mr Agbodza “reiterated the Ministry’s focus on road maintenance throughout the year, stressing the importance of preserving existing infrastructure while pushing ahead with new developments.”

He underscored the critical role of international partnerships in achieving these goals, especially through sustained collaboration with institutions like the World Bank.

He also reaffirmed “the government’s resolve to deliver 12 major road projects under the “BIG PUSH” initiative, which forms a central pillar of President Mahama’s vision to enhance road interconnectivity nationwide.”

The initiative seeks to bridge infrastructure gaps and facilitate inclusive development across urban and rural communities alike.
