The Northern Region Security Council on Wednesday, July 22 reviewed the security situation in the Northern Region town of Bimbilla, which has seen a spate of clashes recently.

According to reports, the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) resolved to maintain the curfew and the joint military and police presence in the town.

Clashes a fortnight ago resulted in at least 10 deaths.

The clashes were said to have been sparked by a directive by the regent to have butchers present part of their meat to his palace.

But at the meeting on Wednesday, chieftaincy was cited as a root cause of the conflict.

Houses were torched during last Thursday’s clashes while several property were destroyed.

The Council is said to visit the area on Tuesday, July 28 to assess the security situation.
