Leadership of Persons With Disability (PWDs) in Abura/Asebu/Kwamankese in the Central Region in collaboration with the local assembly is mapping out a strategy to disburse the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) to their members. In an interview with Kwame Kakraba, the District Chief Executive of for Abura/Asebu/Kwamankese District Assembly, Aba Hagan, urged leadership of various associations in charge of disability common funds across the country to be transparent in dealing with its members. The government has increased the allocation of DACF to PWDs from 2 per cent to 3 per cent. Speaking during the presentation of items in Abura/Asebu/Kwamankese, Ms Hagan said individual members of associations of PWDs must decide what they would use their funds for. According to the DCE, she noticed that there is misunderstanding in disbursing funds.
But she commended the leadership of Abura/Asebu/Kwamankese PWDs for the new strategy in the disbursement of their funds. The items she presented are said to come from the DACF: eight furniture containers, sewing machines eight knitting machines among others. Others were given cheques. Madam Hagan appealed to members to join the association as government is ready to assist them in solving their needs. On his part, the Acting Social Welfare District Coordinator of Abura/Asebu/Kwamankese, Felix Moses, suggested that government should channel the disability fund to his outfit for timely disbursement. “The Social Welfare Department is handcapped. Sometimes the Department finds it difficult to help disabled persons whenever they are in need. “We are appealing to government to take a second look at the Social Welfare Department.” The beneficiaries assured of putting to good use the items delivered.
