A member of the communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Osei Yaw Akoto, has been reported dead.

The wife of the deceased has admitted to stabbing her husband but not with the intention to kill, according to a Police source.

Osei Yaw Akoto was found in a pool of blood at his residence and died shortly on arrival to the Mampong Government Hospital.

The couple, together with their 3 children, have been living in a 3-bedroom house at Kofi Sarpong, a suburb of Mampong in the Ashanti Region, for almost a year.

Close residents admitted that the two have been at loggerheads and quarrel regularly in recent time.

“I often hear them fighting on top of their voice whenever I’m passing by. The husband is the quiet type when he is not drunk, but when he is intoxicated – something he often does – he insults and beats the wife. Though this is known to us, I couldn’t believe it when I heard this morning that Abigail had stabbed Akoto to death. It’s really shocking”, a resident, Ama Nsiah disclosed.

At the Mampong Constituency office of the National Democratic Congress, party members and executives were finding it difficult to come to terms with the sudden demise of their colleague who was seen hearty the previous night.

They extolled the commitment of the late Akoto towards party activities in the Constituency.

“The party is very shocked, and we are in a dark moment as at now. Akoto was a branch youth organiser and a communication team member, and he worked tirelessly for the party. We were even expecting him to deliver more as we approach the December 7 elections, but he left us painfully”, Mampong NDC Constituency Secretary, Hudu Yahaya Mumuni said.

The Mampong Police has commenced investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the stabbing and killing of the 40-year-old.

The wife, Abigail, remains in the custody of the Police whilst the body of Akoto has been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
