They tried to bribe him to back off – Sammy Gyamfi alleges as he celebrates Gyakye Quayson

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, says some elements tried to bribe the re-elected Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency away from contesting the by-elections.

He further alleged that failure to influence James Gyakye Quayson led the same elements to threaten him with jail.

But in all these things, he was unwavering in his commitment and love for his people,” Mr Gyamfi wrote on his official Facebook page on Monday, July 3 as he celebrated the Assin North MP-elect for his “determination”.

He, however, stopped short of mentioning names of the bribers or the political group that attempted this.

The legal practitioner lauded Mr Gyakye Quayson, who won last Tuesday’s polls by 57.56 percent, for always being “calm but confident; humble but courageous; sober but inspiring;meek but fearless”.

“His personal conviction and determination to fight for justice against all odds, even at the risk of losing his civil liberties, is the reason we are smiling today.”

Mr Gyamfi himself has been lauded for tirelessly leading NDC’s campaign machinery in Assin North.

But he chose to celebrate the “old soldier” on Monday.
