The establishment worked against me – Appiah-Kubi on why he lost re-lection bid

Outgoing Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has claimed that “the establishment” within his own party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), actively worked against him.

He made this revelation during discussion on The Key Points with Alfred Ocansey on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

“The establishment worked against me,” Appiah-Kubi asserted, lamenting the challenges he faced within the party’s structures.

His comments come in the wake of the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, which saw the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regain power by over 1.6 million votes and also winning 185 parliamentary seats, so far.

Appiah-Kubi’s statement adds to ongoing discussions about the internal divisions and alleged favoritism that have plagued the NPP, contributing to its loss at the polls on December 7.

These grievances reflect broader concerns about party unity and inclusivity, with many members reportedly sidelined by influential factions.

This claim follows his earlier remarks on the same platform, where he argued that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was more powerful than President Nana Akufo-Addo while he was in office.

Together, these statements paint a picture of a party struggling with internal power dynamics and governance challenges.

As the NPP begins its post-election reflections, Appiah-Kubi’s comments highlight the need for introspection and reform within the party to regain the trust of its members and the Ghanaian electorate.
