Spiritually, former President John Dramani Mahama cannot hold the sword to swear the Oath of the High Office of the President three times, a former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho has said.

Mr Anyidoho said a Ghanaian can only hold the sword to be sworn into office as President of Ghana twice, something which Mr Mahama has already achieved in 2012 after succeeding the late President John Evans Atta Mills who died on the seat and also in 2013 after winning the 2012 general elections.

Mr Anyidoho who is a member of the campaign team of former Finance Minister Dr Kwabena Duffuor, an aspiring flagbearer of the NDC,  told TV3 in an interview on Monday May 8 that “Another one spiritually, is that this sword that we hold that the president swears the oath of office, spiritually you can hold it only twice.

“Jerry Rawlings held it twice – 1992/96, President Kufuor held it twice -2000//2004, President Mills held it once, he died and he left.  John Mahama, on the 9th of 24th  July 2012 you held the sword of state and you swore an oath. On the 7th of January 2013 you held the state sword, you held it twice, why do you want to hold it three times and bring a curse on the country?

“Nana Addo has held it twice, he cannot hold it the third time. Why does John Maham think that Ghana is for him and then he will come and mess the nation up spiritually and physically, it won’t happen it cannot happen.”

Mr Mahama is seeking to be elected flagbearer of the NDC ahead of the 2024 general elections.

If he wins, this will be the fourth time in a row that he will be the flagbearer of the party.
