The People’s National Convention (PNC) is wishing all the candidates sitting this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) well.

The Examination starts on Monday, August 7 and scheduled to end on Friday, August 11.

In a statement issued by General Secretary Janet Asana Nabla, the PNC encouraged candidates “to approach the examination with honesty, fairness, and a commitment to demonstrating their genuine abilities”.

“Students should strongly resist any temptation to engage in examination malpractices, as it undermines the true value of education and tarnishes the credibility of the examination system.”

The opposition party also admonished parents and schools to desist from engaging in acts that compromise the integrity of the exams.

“This act would lead to sowing seeds of corruption in the children, which will ultimately work against our collective good by producing corrupt future politicians and citizens.”

Meanwhile, the PNC is calling on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to expedite the development and implementation of comprehensive guidelines for punishment of offending students in Ghanaian schools.

It said punishments that promote the welfare and wellbeing of both students and educators must be meted out.

The party bemoaned the existence of corporal punishment in schools despite it being abolished.

It called on authorities to come out with guidelines that encourage behavioral correction, restorative justice, and counseling, creating a nurturing atmosphere for students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
