The flagbearer of the People’s National Convention, Bernard Mornah, has called for calm among aggrieved individual party members following the outcome of the party’s delegates’ congress.
At a swearing-in ceremony of national executives elect, the PNC flagbearer maintained that the party has been taken over by leaders to advance the legacies of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Imoro Igala and Dr Hilla Limann.
Bernard Mornah and the other national executives were sworn-in Monday by a member of the Council of Elders of the party.
Bernard Mornah takes office as the flagbearer while Samson Asaki Awingobit replaces Moses Danibah as Chairman.
Yakubu Faharudeen is the General Secretary, Abass Nuhu and Mark Ewusi Arko retained their positions as National Organizer and Youth Organizers while Esther Danso takes charge as the women’s organizer.
Bernard Mornah promised to mend all cracks in the party, but it appears he has a lot more to do.
His contender who lost the flagbearership contest, David Apasera, has hinted of going to court to annul the elections.
He said the elections was not free and transparent.
“I therefore reject the results, and I will do everything possible within the spirit of the 1992 Constitution to make sure things are corrected”, he said.
He added that, ” I am still the bona-fide leader of the party until a properly supervised congress is done by the PNC. ”
However, Bernard Mornah played down the assertions.
He indicated that David Apasera has benefitted tremendously from the PNC after winning two elections on the ticket of the party to represent the people of Bolgatanga in the legislature.
He said Apasera has become the treasurer of the PNC, and in the 2020 elections he was made the presidential candidate. “What the party needs from him now is to show gratitude.”
Chairman of the PNC, Samson Asaki Awingobit said the crop of leaders elected by the PNC will boldly lead the way to unite the support base of the party.
The new executives were tasked to work hard to revive the party and strengthen the legacies of the founding fathers.
Meanwhile, Bernard Mornah is racing against time to appoint a running mate to enable him to file his nomination with the Electoral Commission.
Meanwhile, a functional Executive Committee Meeting was held to prune down number of persons penciled to become the running mate of Bernard Mornah.
