Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security Palgrave Frimpong Boakye-Danquah is urging delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to give room to ethnicity in choosing the party’s next leader.

He insists that “if we introduced ethnicity into our politics, we would be planting a poisonous seed, and the fruits we would bear would be bitter”.

He urged the delegates to vote for the best candidate without considering the candidate’s background.

Mr Boakye-Danquah, who has expressed interest to be NPP Parliamentary Candidate in Abuakwa North in next year’s elections, made this call over the week when he met with the NPP delegates at Akyem Tafo.

He told them not to forget the tradition’s founders like RS Dombo as well as KA Busia and JB Danquah.

But he stressed that they should not be used as the basis for sowing tribal politics.

“Tribal politics is something we must not entertain in NPP, since 1992 we have remained a nation; one nation.”
