Mr. Jumah, who has vowed to unseat the sitting MP, Patricia Appiagyei, was handcuffed and whisked away by the police supervising the primaries.
He is reported to have torn a portion of the voters register claiming it had been doctored to favour the incumbent MP, Patricia Appiah-Agyei, his only contender.
The Buffalo Unit of the police in the region picked him up in a very tensed atmosphere.
TV3’s Ashanti Regional Correspondent , Benjamin Aidoo, reports that the election venue is very tensed following the incident.
Voting he says has been halted as the Regional Chairman Antwi Boasiako, has arrrived at the scene to resolve the issues amicably.

Benjamin Aidoo says the portion of the torn register may not affect voting that much once the Regional Chairman manages to resolve the situation.
He says the party chairman is also making efforts to get the police to release Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah so he can partake in the monitoring of the polls as a contestant.
The former MP, Maxwell Kofi Jumah is known for his no-nonsense approach to issues with many of his critics describing him as unruly and hot-headed.
His action therefore many not have come as a surprise to many particularly when tension had built up between him and his female opponent even before the polls.
In the last parliamentary primaries, Mr. Jumah accused the same opponent of using her “buttocks” for favours in an election she eventually won.
Meanwhile voting commenced Saturday morning in some 245 constituencies across the country to elect new candidates who will wrestle power for the NPP in the 2016 parliamentary elections.
Some 30 constituencies are not taking part in the polls due to various internal wrangling some of which have become a subject of legal tussle.
Voting started at 8am in various constituencies with some starting a bit later. Despite the incident in the Asokwa constituency, very few of such incidents have been reported in other parts of the country.
Voting is expected to end at 3:00pm.
