NPP condemns ‘despicable’ and ‘unwarranted’ comment by NDC member against Kufuor

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned a recent verbal attack by a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

This comes after a viral video of Dela Edem, a member of the NDC and an aide to former President John Mahama, making disrespectful remarks about Kufuor.

In a statement issued on November 16, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, described the comments as “despicable, shameful, and disgraceful”.

“Dela Edem, who was speaking on TV XYZ, said, among other horrible things, that “President Kufour is evil, and that’s why he is in a wheelchair and has been cursed to remain in a wheelchair.”

“These unprovoked attacks on the revered statesman and former president are despicable, shameful, and disgraceful. Accordingly, the NPP condemns them in no uncertain terms,” the statement said.

The party has further called on John Mahama to take disciplinary measures against Edem and not continue to remain silent on Edem’s conduct.

Additionally, they have demanded that John Mahama publicly denounce the unacceptable remarks made by his aide and extend an apology to Mr. Kufuor.

“Owing to the above, President Kufuor has endeared himself to the hearts and minds of right-thinking members of the Ghanaian society and has, in fact become a global icon. Therefore, we call on President John Mahama to openly condemn despicable statement from his own aide and further apologise to H.E. John Agyekum Kufour.”

The NPP said the revered statesman has earned enormous respect from Ghanaians due to his policies which helped developed the nation when he was President and as such the “shameful” comment by Dela is untoward.
