An Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is unfazed by the threats issued by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, at a health walk organised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the weekend.
Mr Acheampong, who is also the Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency in the Eastern Region, said the NPP has the men to match the NDC if the latter decided to do anything untoward during the 2024 elections.
To that end, Bryan Acheampong, a former Minister of State in charge of National Security, insisted that the NPP government will not hand over to any other government but will do everything possible to ensure that the party stays in power.
“If the NDC dares to use threats, violence and foolishness in the 2024 election, we will let them know we have the men,” he told a mammoth crowd at Mpraeso, where the health walk ended.
“We will show them that we have the men. We have the men. It will never happen that we the NPP will stand on a platform to hand over power to the NDC. It will never happen! We will make sure NPP remain in government at all cost.”
But speaking on Midday News on 3FM on Wednesday, Mr Kwakye Ofosu said no “earthly force” can stop Mr Mahama from being sworn in if he wins the 2024 elections.
“When the people of Ghana vote overwhelmingly for Mahama in 2024, there is no earthly force and certainly not the NPP can deprive him of that particular mandate,” the former Deputy Communications Minister said.
“Whatever it takes to ensure that that mandate is protected and secured, the NDC will do.
“So, these ravings and rantings of Bryan Acheampong and his stock will do very little to shake our confidence.”
He said from all indications, the NPP is heading to opposition in 2024 because their management of the economy “which has led to the suffering of the millions of Ghanaians [will see them] booted out at the earliest opportunity”.
