File photo[/caption] Delegates of the National Democratic Congress in the Bole-Bamboi constituency of the newly created Savannah Region have overwhelmingly voted for former president John Mahama in the party’s presidential primary. Mahama sprinted with 750 votes while second deputy speaker of parliament Alban Bagbin had four votes, leaving Joshua Alabi and Alhaji Nurideen Iddrisu with just one vote each and the rest zero. Certified results from the Electoral Commission in the Bole-Bamboi constituency put the total valid votes cast at 756 with one rejected ballot. The constituency register had a total of 762 names. The former president’s victory in the constituency, many say, was expected because he hails from the constituency.
The presidential primary conducted in all the 275 constituencies across the country is expected to elect one of the seven candidates to lead the NDC into the 2020 general elections. Election watchers have predicted a straight win for the former president Mahama but the margin, which establishes his popularity in the party, is what they are observing in today’s exercise. However, many have not lost sight on a surprise factor. Elections at party levels have produced interesting and shocking results in past.
