Founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) Percival Kofi Akpaloo has rubbished the authenticity of an alleged leaked audio which captures some voices plotting the removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

He has described the purported audio as “unrealistic”, “childish” and “needless” which needs not to be given public consideration.

The alleged audio surfaced on social media detailing a plot by high-ranking officials from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a top member of the Ghana Police Service to oust the current IGP from office before the 2024 polls.

The voices on the secret tape are suspected to be those of a top police officer and a member of the NPP.

This has provoked a series of public debate as civil organizations have called on the government to investigate and penalize those found culpable.

But speaking in an interview with Onua TV, Mr Akpaloo expressed disagreement with calls on the government to establish an independent committee to probe the tape.

He is convinced that the tape is unfounded and cannot compromise the security of the country or either affect the forthcoming general elections.

”I have heard about the leaked tape but it is not something that we should waste our time to discuss because it could be a mere conversation between some people.”

“[IGP] Dampare was appointed by President Akufo-Addo and it is only him who could cause his removal but the Akufo Addo I know will not do such a thing,” he maintained.

Kofi Akpaloo touted the achievements of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, describing him as the best IGP who would not kowtow to pressure or whatsoever to rig elections.
