IEA presidential encounter hits a snag as Cheddar pulls out

The Institute of Economic Affairs’ (IEA) presidential debate and evening encounter series have hit a snag following the pulling out of the leader of the of the New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako at the final hour.

Cheddar’s decision to pull out of the programme appeared to have distorted IEA’s calendar, but leadership of the think tank said they will review their plans and engage other political parties.

The IEA had scheduled to open the presidential evening encounter on Wednesday September 18, 2024 with the leader of the New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako.

The encounter seeks to provide a platform for some selected presidential candidates to articulate clearly, their vision and policies for the country as part of activities leading to the December 7 polls.

However, Nana Kwame Bediako, alias Cheddar who was billed for the opening finally pulled out compelling the IEA to reschedule the programme.

Information concerning Cheddar’s no show has been scanty. But the IEA said ‘The Evening Encounter at the Institute of Economic Affairs scheduled for today 18 September 2024 with the New Force Movement has been rescheduled because of unavoidable circumstances. A new date will be announced in due course.’

The leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, who has been scheduled to be hosted after Nana Kwame Bediako will have to be re-engaged.

Earlier, Dr Bawumia’s campaign team said their flagbearer will not participate in the IEA debates and encounter if their counterpart, the NDC is not involved.

But the alternate chair of the IEA presidential committee, Most Reverend, Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo said they will further engage them even though they can’t compel them to participate.
