The Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, Ben Ephson, has advised former Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen not to attempt to go independent.
He predicts that Mr Kyerematen will not perform well when he contests the 2024 elections as an independent candidate.
Alan Kyerematen on Tuesday, September 5 wrote to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to announce his withdrawal from the final race to elect the party’s 2024 flagbearer, scheduled for Saturday, November 4.
He came third in the first round, the Super Delegates’ Conference, behind Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
But in his statement to announce his resignation, Mr Kyerematen raised suspicion that the Super Delegates’ Conference was “strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular aspirant”.
He hinted of his next line of action.
“In the next upcoming weeks, I will provide an indication of the role that I will play in politics in Ghana, after consultations with my family and other well-wishers, various stakeholders and interest groups.”
Many are suggesting the perennial NPP flagbearer aspirant could this time go independent.
But speaking on Onua TV on Thursday, September 7, Ben Ephson says that decision will not augur well for him because those who loved him, first of all, did so because of his long-standing affiliation with the NPP.
“I don’t think that he will do well at all as an independent candidate,” he said, adding that “it is up to him to take political decision”.
The pollster advised that Mr Kyerematen “can remain in the party or decide to be with the party and stay”.
