A member of the legal team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Kudzo Tameklo, has descended heavily on the government, asking leader Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to address the nation and apologise for the failure in fighting illegal mining.

Lawyer Tameklo stressed that the content of the Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng report only shows the incompetence of the current administration.

The report, which was written by the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), cites several government officials including the Minister of Information.

Almost all these officials have denied the allegations with the Presidency calling them “a catalogue of personal grievances”.

The Presidency further pointed out that “whilst Prof. Frimpong-Boateng makes serious allegations against some government appointees, as having been involved in, supporting or interfering with the fight against illegal mining, not a single piece of evidence was adduced or presented to enable the claims to be properly investigated”.

But speaking on the ‘Big Issues’ segment on TV3‘s New Day on Tuesday, April 25, Mr Kudzo Tameklo said everything contained in the report is true about the current administration.

“[Prof] Frimpong-Boateng is more credible than the entire government,” he stated, adding that “Ghanaians believe that when it comes to credibility, this government does not have one.”

He said the report only goes to show that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is complicit in illegal mining in Ghana.

“Akufo-Addo is not only an accomplice but also a defender of companies engaged in galamsey.”
