The Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) has unveiled Dr Daniel Augustus Lartey Junior as flagbearer going into the December 7 elections.
Dr. Lartey was popularly acclaimed alongside other national party executives at a congress in Accra.
The La Palm Royal Beach Hotel hosted the centralised congress of the GCPP that assembled delegates from all sixteen regions.
The members acclaimed Dr. Daniel Augustus Lartey as its flagbearer. This was subsequently confirmed by the Director of Elections at the Electoral Commission.
Dr Lartey Junior’s elder brother and former flagbearer of the party, Henry Lartey was also acclaimed as the Chairman of the party along with other national executives.
The GCPP flagbearer promises to improve the party’s domestication policies for implementation when elected to office.
He said technology driven agriculture will be a key consideration among policies to be adopted to be implemented.
He said, “agriculture used to be the backbone of the economy but same cannot be said now. We will reform agriculture and supply farmers with tools to work. We will make sure that the citizens will grow what they will eat and what they will sell from their land.”
General Secretary of GCPP, Citizen Ato Dadzie expressed disappointment about government’s failure to halt illegal mining and destruction of forest reserves and water bodies.
He said a GCPP government has the solution to the environmental degradation caused through illegal mining activities.
He said, “we pretend to be fighting galamsey. Because the fight against galamsey has been done along party lines, no government is willing to commit to fight it because the opposition will use it against the incumbent government.”
