Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapem North Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has countered the claim by the South Dayi Member of Parliament Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor that the delay in appointing MMDCEs is stalling development in the country, saying there is nothing stopping the development of any assembly in the country.
He said according to the laws of decentralization governing the mandates of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the country, there is no vacuum created as a result of the delay by the President in the appointment of the local executives in the country.
Mr Aboagye pointed out that once the budget for 2021 has been passed and it’s running, the assemblies do not stop in delivering their mandate.
He said even if the chief executives of the local governments have not been appointed by the President, developments do not stop in their various domains.
Mr Aboagye pressed on the New Day that it is erroneous for anyone to say that because MMDCEs have not been appointed developments have halted in the country.
He said this in an interview with Johnnie Hughes on the New Day show on TV3, Tuesday, September 7.
Mr Aboagye was reacting on the back of the backlash against the President for not appointing MMDCEs for the past nine months since assuming office and the writ filed by the South Dayi legislator Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor in court seeking to nullify the activities of persons directed by the President to work in acting capacities as MMDCEs in the country.
“You see, once the budget for 2021 has been passed and it is running, the assemblies doesn’t stop. So it is completely erroneous for anybody to say that because there are no substantive MCEs, developments at the municipal assemblies have been halted. It is completely false, the laws are there, the assemblies are running”, he countered on the New Day.
