Asiedu Nketia lauds Dampare for election security duties so far

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has showered praises on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, for his supervision of elections since he assumed office.

Mr Asiedu Nketia noted that the IGP has passed two election tests the NDC has graded him with since he took office.

He cited the NDC primaries and the Kumawu by-elections as polls the IGP gave himself a good account of.

Mr Asiedu Nketia made this known while responding to questions from journalists after a crunch meeting between the leadership of the police and political parties as well as the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) on Monday, June 26.

The meeting came barely 24 hours to the crucial by-elections in Assin North Constituency in the Central Region.

Mr Asiedu Nketia had earlier expressed angst over the lack of a security meeting between the police and political parties ahead of the by-elections.

But he said the NDC has faith in the Dampare-led personnel to provide fair security during the polls.

“After the previous IGP went on retirement, this IGP, since he took office, from our side, has passed the two election tests we used for him, so we have no fear in us that he won’t pass this third one,” Mr Asiedu Nketia said in Twi.

He added that after handing over the security of the NDC primaries to the IGP, there was a completely peaceful outcome.

The former party General Secretary cited how the IGP responded to every complaint filed about irregularities during the Kumawu by-election.
