Apologise to Asantehene and Nkrumah’s family – Ashanti Region NDC Chair

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition NDC, Augustus Andrews Nana Akwasi has asked the running mate to the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh to render an unqualified apology to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as well as the family of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah over his “your Nkrumah” comment.

When addressing a rally at the Kumasi Jubilee Park on July 9, to climax his nomination as the running mate, Dr Prempeh, also known as NAPO said, “No president since independence has developed Ghana more than President Akufo-Addo; not even your Kwame Nkrumah.”

The statement has attracted a public bashing with some critics questioning why NAPO failed to heed to Asantehene’s advice not to make Dr Bawumia regret choosing him.

Nana Akwasi on GhanAkoma described the Energy Minister’s comment as disrespectful and arrogant.

“Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh failed to heed to the advice of his uncle (Asantehene), who is also the overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom and I had indication at the function that he paid his school fees. Three kilometers from the Manhyia Palace to the Jubilee Park, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh only reinforced the perception that he is indeed arrogant by describing Ghana’s first President in an arrogant posture.”

“We ask that Dr Muhammadu Bawumia and Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh issue an unqualified apology to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the family of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, all the other former Presidents of Ghana, and the general public for the disrespect, impunity and arrogance,” he urged.
